It’s Not Just April Showers That Bring May Flowers

It’s April (the 6th to be exact) and we’ve in fact had some lovely April showers here in the Carolinas already. But it’s not just a little rain that can bring out the May flowers. You know what else helps produce bouquets? Weddings. And most weddings start with a ring. A diamond ring, to be exact. And diamonds just happen to be the birthstone for those born in April. Bring on the diamonds.

It’s been said that diamonds as the April birthstone are a fitting gem to symbolize the start of something new just like springtime. The word diamond is derived from the Greek word “adamas” meaning “invincible”, which is an appropriate way to describe those born in the month of April. April babies are more likely to display strong leadership and have an assertive nature. These Diamond-wearers are more likely to be extroverted.

Earlier this week I wrote about the Shirley Temple Blue – an amazing (and you could say extroverted) blue diamond that’s going to be auctioned off in a few days. But lo and behold, it appears to be the month of blue diamonds (ok, right. I did just say it’s the month for all diamonds). Yet another amazing blue diamond hit the auction block today at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong. According to Thomson Reuters, the diamond, known as the De Beers Millennium Jewel 4, was mined in South Africa. It is the largest diamond of its kind to appear at auction. It was one of 12 in De Beers Millennium Jewels collection that was unveiled in 2000 in London.

Any guesses about how much it went for??? It was a record setter at $31.8 million – the highest price paid for a gemstone at auction in Asia. Wowzers. Do you think someone bought it to put into an engagement ring? We could only hope to see it, if so. What would you do with it if it was yours? Leave us a comment below and let’s all dream a little.
