Wedding Wednesday: Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank

Well, I've avoided the obvious for a while now, but I guess it's time to go ahead and talk about the rings that everyone has talked about already. Who do I mean? Well, I guess it's finally time we talk abut Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank and the padparadscha sapphire engagement ring.

It's not that I have anything against the ring - it's quite lovely actually. It's just that EVERYONE has already discussed it ad nauseam. However.... let's just dive in. There was intense speculation that her fiancé, Jack Brooksbank, had modeled the ring after that of Princess Kate's (formerly belonging to Princess Diana).

But, while no one has said outright, it's more likely that the ring was made to mimic that of the bride's mother's - an oval Burmese ruby surrounded by diamonds (which may have in and of itself been made to resemble that of Diana's - who's to say - both were made by the same jeweler in the same decade).

No matter what ring may have been the guiding light, it's clear that Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank worked on the ring together. In his first interview with the press, he admitted to having found the stone first and then made no further moves until,"Eugenie had signed off on it." I've always said that the smart men consult the woman they way to spend the rest of the life with before buying her the most important piece of jewelry she'll ever have.

Best we can tell, the center stone, an oval salmon colored sapphire (which is one of the more rare colors of sapphire), is roughly 2.5 - 3cts and it's surrounded by a combination of round and pear shaped diamonds. It's with the diamonds that the carat weight estimates have varied widely. Some say the two pear shaped stones are each 1.5cts themselves. It's hard to say with out the ring in hand but I would guess them to be 1.5cts total and possibly another 1 - 1.5cts in round stones.
